Introduction to The Woodlands, TX
The Woodlands is the largest master-planned community in Texas. It’s located ~28 miles North of Houston. The Woodlands occupies approximately 44 square miles, mostly in Montgomery County with a small portion in Harris County. The Woodlands is a vibrant and growing community incorporating both commercial and residential areas and includes a great variety of recreational, retail and entertainment venues. In keeping with its name, The Woodlands was designed to incorporate the natural woodlands into the communities. The Woodlands Town Center incorporates numerous shopping and dining opportunities. There is a waterway with a river walk, and “Waterway Cruisers” that are air-conditioned, which can serve as transportation to various venues or simply to enjoy sight-seeing along the waterway (see the photo at the top of the page). There is also a free trolley service for moving around the Town Center. A map of the routes and stops is available here. The Woodlands is divided into nine separate and distinct villages, each unique in its character and makeup. Each village has its own village association and elects its officers from among the residents. Each village association has its own website which includes such essential information as: community news & events; community programs; local schools; bylaws; board membership, meeting agendas and minutes; etc. Some villages have their own Residential Design Review Committees.

Alden Bridge Village – Opened in 1993. Alden Bridge is one of the newer and larger villages in the Woodlands. It’s located in the northwest corner of The Woodlands with easy access to Research Forest and the University Center. It’s bordered and the Jones State Forest at the northeast. College Park Village – Opened in 1995. College Park Village is the location of Lone Star College and Sam Houston State University-The Woodlands Center. It covers the area around SH242 and the Harper’s Landing neighborhood east of I-45. College Park Village Association. College Park Bylaws.
Indian Springs Village – Opened in 1984. Indian Springs is the smallest of the villages in The Woodlands. It’s named in recognition of the artifacts from Bidai tribe of the Atakapan Indians that were found during development. It’s located between The Woodlands Parkway and Spring Creek. Town Center – Is the heart of The Woodlands commercial, shopping, and cultural center. It includes Market Street, The Waterway District, The Woodlands Mall, many restaurants and shops, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, hotels and the convention center.

Building and Remodeling in The Woodlands
The Woodlands is a large, forested community and has been conceived and developed in accordance with a master plan. It is intended to be a generally self-sustaining community where residents can live, work, and play in harmony with the environment. Careful attention is paid to ecology, with emphasis on preserving natural flora and fauna for future generations. The natural characteristics have been carefully enhanced by additional landscaping and development of lakes, parks and open space to provide scenic and recreational opportunities for residents.
The Woodlands does have an established building code, which is established as most currently adopted edition of the International Residential Code published by the International Code Council and adopted by the Plan Review Committees (The 2006 version as of this writing).
